This Week in Free Energy
Susan
Imagine a world in which each home has its own power generator that obtains its
energy in such a way that no fuel has to be added.
Imagine every vehicle being able to run without ever stopping for fuel.
Imagine each appliance having its own power source that never has to be
recharged. That is the world of the
future. Join with us as we track our
progress toward such a world.
James
This Week in Free Energy; Sept. 10, 2006: exploring and reporting on energy
systems that tap into the inexhaustible, ubiquitous, and clean sources of energy
generation, such as solar, wind, tide, and geothermal, but also exploring those
non-conventional avenues such as zero point energy, radiant energy, cold fusion,
and magnet motors.
With us today for our report is Sterling Allan.
Sterling, what do you have for us this week?

> Floating
Solar Chimney - A variant of the concrete solar
tower concept. The floating chimney is a light-weight
structure made of a set of lifting balloon rings filled with a
lighter than the air gas. Result is projected to be
cost-competitive with grid electricity generation. (PESWiki;

- Race
On to Prove Free Energy (video) - Irish engineers say
they have built a device that creates free and clean energy.
Until now most scientists have dismissed their claims, saying
that they break the most basic laws of physics. So the inventors
have come up with a unique challenge. (Sky News; UK;
Sept. 9)
- How
Free Energy Works (video) - Steorn has developed
all-magnet motor technology which produces free energy. The
company's CEO, Sean McCarthy, has explained his theory and how
it works. (Sky News; UK; Sept. 9)

- Batteries
> New
Rechargeable Battery: "Hybrio" - Hybrio by UniRoss
is ready to use out of the package, lasts up to 4x longer than
standard alkalines on each charge, holds its charge for months, and
can be reused over and over for three-plus years. (PESWiki;
Sept. 8)

Batteries
> Breakthrough
Lead Acid by Power Technology, Inc. - Patented lead acid
battery breakthrough of Power Technology, Inc. claims smaller
battery size, less weight, more ampere hour capacity, increased
energy density, less lead, more environment friendly, superior
recharge capabilities and longer life. (PESWiki; Sept. 9)

> Organic
Semiconductors Make Cheap, Flexible Photovoltaics and LEDs -
Cornell University researchers have demonstrated a new type of
organic semiconductor device using ionic junctions which shows
electroluminescence and acts as a photovoltaic cell. The idea could
lead to displays on cloth or paper and very inexpensive solar cells.

/ Silicon
> Sliver
Solar Cells - New manufacturing process developed at the
Australian National University uses as little as one tenth the
amount of hyper-pure silicon as in square solar PV technology.
Manufacturing plant is complete, and process testing is underway.
Commercial modules projected to be available by mid 2007. (PESWiki;
Sept. 6)

- Solar
/ Silicon
> Solar cells
go thin and flimsy - The next generation of solar cells made
out of plastics and microscopic crystals instead of silicon are
taking shape at the University of Queensland. The new methods
would produce cells with efficiencies comparable to silicon, but
which are cheaper and more flexible. (PhysOrg; Sept. 4)

> Commanders
in Iraq Urgently Request Renewable Power Options - MNF-W
priority 1 request pointing to the hazards inherent in American
supply lines, noting that up to 70% of the supply convoys on Iraq's
roads are carrying fuel, requests alternative energy solutions to
power US forward operating bases; and the US military looks like it
will act on the request. (Defense Industry Daily; Aug. 23)

- Transmissions
- Efficient designs for Continuously Variable Transmissions (CVT)
and Infinitely Variable Transmissions (IVT) optimize engine
efficiency, resulting in fuel economy improvement and reduced
emissions. Hybrid models use electric motors or hydraulics for
regenerative braking and energy storage. (PESWiki; Sept. 7)

> First
Solar Powered Biofuel Station Opens - A newly-opened solar
powered biofuel station by SeQuential
Biofuels in Oregon is powered in part by 244 solar panels that
cover the fueling islands generating 33kW. The 4800 plants installed
in five inches of soil on the roof will help to control rainwater
runoff on the site and will help cool the convenience store during
the summer. (TreeHugger; Aug. 29)
